The family and department have asked for time to be able to process the sudden loss and time to grieve Chief Cassidy. Plans for a memorial service will be released at a later date. Flags at first responder detachments and city hall’s in the Capital Region are at half-mast in Cassidy’s honour. Chief Cassidy’s contributions to the health and safety of the community are unmeasurable. Chief Cassidy passed suddenly Wednesday evening, having dedicated 22 years of service in Colwood – including the last 6 years as Fire Chief. The District’s flags have been lowered in honor of Chief John Cassidy from Colwood Fire Department. The T’Sou-ke Nation flag flies alongside the Canadian, Province of British Columbia, and District of Sooke flags, respectively. The flying of the flag is a symbol of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation. The District is grateful to stand and work together with the T’Sou-ke First Nation as stewards of the land we share. The T’Sou-ke First Nation flag is flying prominently at the District of Sooke Municipal Hall. To mark Remembrance Day, campus flags will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, Nov. Remembrance Day is a day for all Canadians to remember the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. The District of Sooke has raised the Ukrainian flag to support solidarity with Ukraine, and stand in support of the Ukrainian community in Sooke and the region. This annual national memorial day gives Canadians an opportunity to remember workers killed, disabled or injured in the workplace, and workers afflicted with industrial disease. To mark the Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace (Workers’ Mourning Day), campus flags will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Apr. In remembrance of the passing of Forrest Owen, of the Central Saanich Fire Department, the District of Sooke will lower its flags to half-mast. The flag will remain at half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral and memorial service.
